Harunta Bugyal trek is a beautiful and lesser-known alpine meadow trek located in the Ganges–Yamuna valley of Uttarkashi district, Uttarakhand. Situated at an altitude of around 2,900 meters, Harunta Bugyal is known for its mesmerizing beauty and peaceful surroundings.
Harunta Bugyal is the origin point of the Indravati River, which later flows down to Uttarkashi and merges with the sacred Bhagirathi River. Reaching this bugyal usually takes 3 to 4 hours, and upon arrival, trekkers experience a deep sense of joy and tranquility.
Trail Experience & Natural Beauty
The trekking route to Harunta Bugyal starts from the tourist spot Kishanpur, located on the Kedarnath road, about 14 km from Uttarkashi. The total trekking distance is around 7 km, making it a short yet thrilling trek.
As the trail progresses, it passes through dense forests of Banj (oak), Buransh (rhododendron), Thuner, Moru, and Rai trees. Along the way, the silence of the forest is broken by chirping birds and occasional sounds of wildlife, creating a truly immersive nature experience.
Bugyals & Local Culture
At a distance of about 1 km from Kishanpur, trekkers reach the first meadow known as Khal Bugyal (Chhota Bugyal). This area is traditionally used by villagers and features age-old cowsheds and forest homes.
Villagers from the Badgaddi Patti region visit Harunta Bugyal every year for worship. The bugyal holds cultural and spiritual significance for nearby villages such as Aleth, Kishanpur, Manpur, and Dhanpur.
Trekkers can easily get local food items like milk, curd, ghee, butter, and other essentials from villagers during the trekking season, adding a warm cultural touch to the journey.

Explore Uttarkashi
- Depart early morning from Rishikesh and drive towards Uttarkashi along the Bhagirathi River. Upon arrival, explore the famous Vishwanath Temple. Evening at leisure. Overnight stay in a hotel.
Close Mountain Views
- After breakfast, drive from Uttarkashi to Kishanpur. From Kishanpur, begin a short trek of 1 km to Dugda Camp. Enjoy close-up mountain views and forest surroundings. Overnight stay in tents.
Via Hod Bugyal
Begin the day early and trek from Dugda Camp to Harunta Bugyal, passing through the scenic Hod Bugyal. Explore the vast green meadow, the origin point of the Indravati River, and enjoy peaceful surroundings.
