Gaumukh Trek
Gaumukh Trek Source of Ganga
Brief Description
Gangotri Gaumukh trek is a popular trekking route in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is located in the Garhwal Himalayas and is considered one of the holiest treks in India, as it takes you to the source of the Ganges River, which is an important pilgrimage site for Hindus.
The trek starts from Gangotri, a town situated at an altitude of 4,048 meters above sea level, which is also the starting point for the Char Dham Yatra. From there, the trek leads to Gaumukh, which is the snout of the Gangotri glacier and the origin of the Ganges River. The trek involves hiking through rugged terrain, crossing streams and rivers, and passing through dense forests and high altitude meadows.
The trek is approximately 18 kilometers long and takes around 5-6 days to complete, depending on the pace of the trekker. The best time to undertake the Gangotri Gaumukh trek is from May to June and from September to November, as the weather during these months is generally pleasant and the trekking conditions are favorable.
Overall, the Gangotri Gaumukh trek is a challenging and rewarding experience for those who love the outdoors and seek to explore the beauty of the Himalayas. However, it is recommended that trekkers be in good physical condition and well-prepared for high altitude trekking.
